The Sump Pump
The Sump Pump: Automated Resilience in a Red Market
Trading in a sideways market isn’t about picking a "moon" shot. It’s about building a system that can take a hit and keep the floor dry. On March 15th, I deployed a high-frequency DCA bot on 3Commas. I call it "The Sump Pump."
While everyone else is panic-refreshing their portfolio, the Pump is just following the script.
The Mechanics
- Exchange: Binance.US
- Pairs: SOL, BCH, BTC
- Indicator: RSI 7 (< 30) on the 5-minute chart
- The Platform: 3Commas
The Strategy: This bot doesn't guess the bottom. It uses a series of Safety Orders triggered by oversold RSI signals to hammer down the average entry price whenever the market dips.
Field Report: April 5, 2026
The market is currently in a "fear" phase, with Bitcoin stalling near $67k and altcoins taking a beating. The Pump was built specifically for this kind of pressure.
- BCH: This is the current heavy lifter. We’ve hit 15 out of 20 safety orders. The bot just filled a buy at $438.80. As the price slips further, the Sump Pump does exactly what it was programmed to do: accumulate at lower levels to pull the "take profit" target down toward the current price.
- SOL: We already shook one position for a clean profit at $81.31 earlier this week before the current slide. The system took the win and immediately reset to catch the next dip.
- BTC: This is the anchor. It’s holding steady while the higher-volatility alts do the heavy lifting for the grid.
The Reality of Unrealized PnL
The dashboard currently shows an unrealized PnL of -$180.14. For a retail trader, that’s a reason to stress. For a machine, it’s just "work in progress." Until the trade closes, that number is just paper math.
The Sump Pump is currently holding $2,162.51 in active trades. Because the bot is properly collateralized, it can sit in the deep end as long as it takes for the market to snap back.
The Bottom Line
If you’re trading with emotion, you’re just liquidity for someone else’s bot. The Sump Pump doesn't have a heartbeat, and it doesn't care about the news cycle. It only cares about the RSI and the next safety order.
Automate the logic. Remove the human.
